Academic Excellence Award

Striving for academic excellence is a very important value we wish to instill in every student. We want them to believe that they should always strive to be the best they can be.

To encourage them to always do their best, we have introduced the Academic Excellence Awards.

For every class, prizes are awarded for the three core subjects of English Language, Mathematics and Science. There are three prizes for each subject, namely

  1. Gold award for the best academic achievement
  2. Silver award for the most improved academic achievement
  3. Bronze award for the student who has put in the most effort

The Awards are linked to three of the school’s core values of Patience, Attentiveness and Responsibility. We make this link because we are mindful that character-building is as important as academic excellence. Three representatives from the animal world are used to symbolize the subjects. Each of these animals possesses a special quality that students should have in order to excel.

Patience
Academic Excellence for English Language

For English Language, the butterfly is used to symbolize 'Patience'. When a Monarch butterfly completes its long, dramatic metamorphosis, it faces the most difficult struggle of its life – breaking out of the chrysalis. If it fails, the butterfly’s wings would not unfold and it would never fly. In language learning, students need the patience and the persistence of a butterfly to continue on this learning journey. Once they make their breakthrough, just like the Monarch butterfly, they would be able to spread their wings to fly and be successful in all their endeavours.

Attentiveness
Academic Excellence Award for Mathematics

For Mathematics, the deer is used to symbolize 'Attentiveness'. In the animal world, attentiveness is a matter of life and death. Predators are always on the look out for the next meal - and a few seconds can make all the difference. The white-tailed deer has large ears to detect even the smallest sound that could signal the presence of an enemy. Its other senses (sight, smell, touch and taste) are just as alert.

Like the deer, we need to be attentive in Mathematics. We must pay attention to even the smallest detail in order to solve mathematical problems. We must always be alert for the subject requires absolute concentration.

Responsibility
Academic Excellence Award for Science

For Science, the eagle is chosen to represent 'Responsibility'. This majestic bird symbolizes responsibility because of its life-long commitment to its mate and dedication to its young. They parent birds remain faithful to each other, and together, they use their vast knowledge to rear their young to adulthood.

In Science, we acquire a lot of useful knowledge. However, knowledge must go hand in hand with responsibility. Students who have acquired useful knowledge in Science should always put it to good use for the betterment of himself, his community and the world.
